Welcome.
The script for Francesca Lia Block's The Hanged Man is now almost complete and awaiting revisions. If all goes according to plan, auditions will be held sometime in April, after Spring break. Though nothing is set in stone, and, let us face it, we are disorganized, we hope to hold our auditions at the Women's Information Center, Inc. The Women's Info Center was one of our beneficiaries for V-Day. Hopefully, our logo design will be completed and we can begin to hang posters, as well as sell stickers and perhaps buttons, like V-Day. Also, to raise money, we hope to have a poetry reading, open mic night sort of thing and perhaps a bake sale. Even though our performances are scheduled for July, we are now beginning our difficult search for a cheap venue. We'd like to make as much money as possible with our two performances because the majority of our money will be going to local organizations. The rest will be put in the bank so Calyx Film and Theater can continue on into the future.
As far as auditions go, we'd like actors from all walks of life and experiences to come! This is open to all ages, not just high school students. It should be important to note, that some people may not be comfortable with some onstage activities, such as: kissing, smoking (fake and/or real) and scenes with partial nudity (underwear). Perhaps we should have taken content into consideration before deciding on a book, but we had to follow Toby's dream! Really, the aspects we've left in the script are crucial for story development and the overall message of the play. Also, we'd like to make sure that those who decide to audition, are dedicated and reliable actors who can make every (or nearly every) meeting, rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performance
With this production, we hope to incorporate film, along with stage acting, to represent dreams and memories. Therefore, film makers or owners of camera equipment should contact us about helping. We'd like local musicians to come forward with their original work to play during some of the scenes. Those who can work African drums will be greatly appreciated!
For those of you who have not read The Hanged Man" I recommend you do [Toby's note: it's a pretty badass book], especially before auditioning to get a "feel" for the characters and the story.

pP/S. I'd like to add how amazing this all feels again, the gears moving, the energy! This is the rough stages, the just starting out, Oh-that-sounds-like-a-good-idea-you-cannot-be-for-real stages. But, V-Day has convinced Toby, Roxe and I that we can do anything! Silly elation...
